Finding the perfect vacation destination can be overwhelming.
There are so many different factors to consider when picking a destination, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options.
A vacation generator is an amazing tool that will help you narrow down your choices and give you some great ideas for your next trip. With so many destinations to visit, there’s no need to settle for anything less than the perfect travel destination.
In this blog post, we are going to cover what information you need to find the right vacation destination for you as well as how to use a vacation trip generator to either find a random travel destination or to find the perfect place to visit based on your preferences.
What Makes the Perfect Travel Destination?
Let’s be honest… Travel is extremely subjective. The perfect travel destination for me might be something completely different for you.
And that’s what makes travel so amazing. There’s no such thing as one perfect place for everyone in the world.
Even for people that don’t like traveling at all, that means that their home destination is their perfect location to be (or maybe they don’t know what it’s like to explore the world yet).
The perfect travel destination is determined by the person. Everyone has different preferences, and what might be ideal in one situation or for one person might not suit others at all.
If you’re looking for the perfect destination in any given area, try to be open-minded so that you can find what’s right for you.
Here are some things to consider in planning your next holiday:
- Is the purpose of your trip a family holiday, a friend’s getaway, or a romantic holiday?
- Are you an active person and like doing adventures? Or do you want to relax?
- Do you enjoy unreal scenery and the great outdoors?
- Are you a night owl looking for the best nightlife?
- Are you a foodie and want to wine and dine all day every day?
- What about
This is where Destinations.ai can come in to help answer all of these questions to help you decide where you should go on your next trip. Let’s get into how to use this tool to find either a random destination or your ideal holiday destination.

How to Use Our Vacation Idea Generator
Note: This generator tool is still in beta and only includes USA locations. We plan on adding Europe and Asia sometime in the near future.
You can use the tool to find a random destination if you’d like or find something that suits your interest. Here’s how.
Step 1: Input Origin and When to Travel
The first step of the process is to input where you are leaving from and when you’d like to travel. For me, I would be leaving Minneapolis and I want to escape the cold temperatures and snow in February.
Step 2: Input Your Desired Weather Conditions
The next step is the important stuff. You’ll want to input your desired weather conditions on where you want to travel to.
Our vacation generator will include the following inputs for you to choose from about the type of place you are looking to travel to:
- Ideal Temperature: Using these sliders you can input the lower and upper bounds of the average temperatures of the destination you’d like to visit. This will filter destinations in our database for your desired temperatures.
- Rain, Snow, or Sunshine: Using the sliders for precipitations for snow and rain, you can filter out locations that have snow and rainy conditions. There are some people that don’t mind the rain because they want more indoor activities like museums, concerts, and history. ‘
In this example, I want to escape the cold weather and snow in Minneapolis. So I will set the temperature range to 55 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and snowy and rain chances to 0% to 10%.
If you want to make the vacation generator as random as possible or you don’t really care about the weather conditions, just set the sliders as wide as possible.
Step 4: Checkmark Your Favorite Travel Activities
This is now where it gets fun and where travel is super subjective depending on each person. If you don’t care about the types of activities you can either leave them all unchecked or check all the boxes.
We have the following activities for you to choose from at your desired vacation destination:
Me, I love places that have plenty of activities, arts, and food. So, I would check these boxes in the vacation idea generator.

Step 4: Input Your Desired Flight Details (Cheap Flight or Quick Flight)
Here is where we have some room for a bit more refinement in the trip idea generator. The way this is broken down is that you can use a slider to cap out the flight duration, assuming you want to keep your flight short and sweet.
But if you are a budget traveler and you just want to get somewhere for cheap (layovers or not), you can have the slider be as long as you want.
Next, you can just the check box to input either a cheap flight and/or a quick flight. The vacation destination generator will do its best to solve for both the cheapest and fastest place to go (while also taking into consideration all of your other travel criteria of course).
For me, I wanted a warm weekend destination for me to get away for a bit and enjoy the outdoors. I want it to be affordable since it won’t be a grand vacation (just a short trip).
So, I input a max flight of 4 hours and I have the cheap flight box ticked. Like this.

There are plenty of ways for you to play around with the logic such as shorter flight duration limits. This is set up like this because flight details are so variable depending on your origin-destination (where you are coming from).
For example, Minneapolis is a major Delta Air Lines hub and also has budget regional carriers for Minnesotans to escape the cold such as Sun Country Air Lines.
Therefore, our airport is connected with certain locations for nonstop flights that are completely different than let’s say Dallas or Seattle.
By being able to play with duration and affordability, you’ll trim out certain types of airlines or certain pricing on your flight.
Test it out and see what comes up for your desired destination. It’s kind of fun.
Step 5: Hit Search and Evaluate Your Destination Ideas
Now, we are ready to let the vacation idea generator do its magic.
Just hit search and you’ll get a list of destination ideas along with a corresponding travel guide for each location (take a look at the Orlando travel guide) as well as the ability to start searching flights for that particular destination.
In the travel guides, you can look at historical weather patterns, current weather conditions, book tours, check out top restaurants, and other top tourist attractions.
These flights are shown based on the month that you want to travel, of course. Remember, here is the criteria that I selected to generate a list of vacation ideas:
- Origin: Minneapolis, MN
- Departure Month: February
- Temperature Range: 55 – 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- Chance of Snow: 0 – 10%
- Chance of Rain: 0 – 10%
- Desired Travel Activities: Active Life, Arts, Food
- Flight Details: Cheap Flight with Max 4 Hours
Here are the results from the search. I think they are pretty accurate. There’s a lot of Florida on here, which makes sense given my temperature selections.
Miami has a great arts scene and Tampa’s is pretty underrated as well. Hey, as long as there is a cheap flight available, I’m certainly open to visiting these locations to escape the cold.
From here, you can then click the view flights button to be taken to the flight options and booking page where you will book your flight with a third-party vendor.
Now, you can see how you can use this tool to find new destination ideas and travel experiences based on what you want to do and what you can afford.
