Ideal For

History Buffs Architecture Enthusiasts Families

Casa Pezzolla, home of Alberobello’s Museo del Territorio, occupies a cluster of around fifteen interconnected trulli on Piazza XXVII Maggio in the town center. The complex dates largely to the 18th century and is named for the Pezzolla family who owned it before the municipality acquired it. Visitors come to see how trulli were built and lived in, explained from inside one of the town’s largest linked trullo complexes.

Rooms open into one another beneath conical limestone roofs. Inside, you can see the thick whitewashed walls and dry-stone corbelled vaults up close, without the souvenir displays common in nearby trulli. Exhibits cover construction techniques, the town’s feudal history under the Counts of Conversano, and rural life in the Valle d’Itria. Displays include farm tools, domestic objects, and weaving looms. Panels and models show how stones were stacked without mortar, which helps when you later walk through the Rione Monti and Aia Piccola districts. Children usually enjoy the low, cave-like rooms and the views of the rooftops.

Visitor Highlights & Practical Info

Arrive at opening time or in the late afternoon to avoid tour groups, which crowd Alberobello from May through September and on weekends. Opening hours and the modest admission fee change seasonally, so confirm them with the Comune di Alberobello before you go. Allow 45 to 60 minutes for the visit. The museum is a short walk from Rione Monti, Aia Piccola, and the Trullo Sovrano, so it fits easily into a walking day. Ferrovie del Sud Est trains connect Alberobello with Bari, and the station is about a ten-minute walk from the piazza.
