NEMO Science Museum is Amsterdam’s hands-on science center, housed in a distinctive green, ship-shaped building overlooking the harbor near Amsterdam Centraal. Its five floors are filled with interactive exhibits on physics, chemistry, technology, and the human body, aimed primarily at children and families but engaging for adults too.
Regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10am to 5:30pm, with last entry one hour before closing. The museum also opens on select Mondays during school holidays and between April and September, but closes for King’s Day on April 27.
Arriving right at opening, or later in the evening when hours allow, tends to mean fewer crowds. The rooftop terrace, included with admission, offers a free view over the city and is worth the climb even on a quick visit.
