Park Güell is Antoni Gaudí’s whimsical hilltop park overlooking Barcelona, designed between 1900 and 1914 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally conceived as a garden housing estate, it became a public park celebrated for its playful architecture and sweeping views over the city to the sea.
The Monumental Zone gathers Gaudí’s most famous flourishes: the undulating mosaic bench that snakes around the main terrace, the colourful trencadís tilework, the fairy-tale gatehouses and the columned Hypostyle Hall beneath. A mosaic salamander, affectionately known as el drac, guards the entrance staircase and has become an emblem of the park.
Access to the Monumental Zone requires a timed ticket booked in advance, while the wider park grounds are free to roam. Hours vary by season with last entry 30 minutes before closing; go early or late to enjoy the terraces with softer light and fewer crowds.
