The Chuckery Area of Cascade Valley Metro Park sits at 837 Cuyahoga St. in north Akron, close to the Cuyahoga Falls border. It is a free Summit Metro Parks site where the Cuyahoga River bends through wooded valley land, and locals come here for trail time, riverside fishing, and open space for their dogs and kids. The site is part of a 526-acre park with more than 8 miles of hiking trails (Northeast Ohio Family Fun).
From the parking lot, the Chuckery Trail climbs and drops through hardwood forest above the river, and the steep stretches give legs a real workout. Anglers cast along the Cuyahoga, where the river curves into a distinctive oxbow bend (ParkMagnet). Families use the soccer fields, picnic tables, shelters, and restrooms. Leashed pets are welcome, which makes the trails a regular stop for dog owners.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit. Youth soccer can fill the parking lot on weekend mornings in spring and fall. October brings strong foliage color on the valley slopes. Wear sturdy shoes, because trails turn muddy after rain. Shelter reservations and current hours are listed on the Summit Metro Parks website. Before you leave, drive to the nearby Valley View Area, which has one of the region’s best overlooks of the river valley.
