Stone Mountain Park surrounds Stone Mountain, a 1,686-foot granite monadnock east of Atlanta carved with the enormous Confederate Memorial Carving depicting Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and Jefferson Davis. The 3,200-acre park combines this landmark with a wide mix of family attractions, hiking trails, and outdoor recreation areas developed around the mountain over the past several decades.
Popular activities include the Summit Skyride cable car to the mountaintop, a one-mile hiking trail to the summit, the Scenic Railroad that circles the base, mini-golf, and paddleboard and kayak rentals on the park’s lake. In summer, the nightly drone and light show combines drones, lasers, and effects projected onto the mountain face.
The park grounds are open daily from 5 AM to midnight, though individual attractions keep their own more limited hours and family-friendly rides typically run only in summer and on weekends the rest of the year.
