Bali Butterfly Park, known locally as Taman Kupu-Kupu Bali, is a butterfly breeding and conservation garden on Jl. Batukaru in Sandan, Wanasari, about 6.5 kilometres north of Tabanan town. Families and nature lovers come for close encounters with Indonesian butterfly species in what operators describe as one of Asia’s largest butterfly enclosures, covering roughly 3,000 square metres (Bali Travel Hub).
Inside the netted garden, butterflies feed on flowering shrubs and fruit trays along shaded paths. A pupae display shows chrysalises at different stages, and with patience you may watch a butterfly emerge. The insect collection adds stick insects, leaf insects, beetles and mounted specimens. Guides explain the breeding cycle, which makes the visit especially useful for children. Most visitors spend 45 to 60 minutes here (Rute Naya).
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
The park typically opens from about 08:00 or 09:00 until 17:00 and closes on Nyepi. Recent ticket prices are around IDR 40,000 for domestic adults and up to IDR 100,000 for international visitors. You can buy tickets at the counter or book through Traveloka (Accessia Pass). Arrive on a sunny mid-morning, when butterflies fly most actively, and before the afternoon tour groups arrive. The park sits on the road to Mount Batukaru, so it combines easily with Pura Luhur Batukaru or the Jatiluwih rice terraces. Hire a driver, because public transport here is limited.
