Parc de les Aigües is a hillside public park in Baix Guinardó, in Barcelona’s Horta-Guinardó district. It opened in 1978 on the former gardens and plant nurseries of the Companyia d’Aigües de Barcelona residence (Barcelona.cat). Locals come for shade, playgrounds and quiet terraces with long views over the city.
The centerpiece is the Casa de les Altures, a late-19th-century house built in an oriental, Moorish-inspired style for the water company’s chairman. It now houses offices of the Horta-Guinardó district. Around it, 15,000 square metres of land were originally expropriated for water tanks, and part of it became the house’s garden and nurseries (Meet Barcelona). Today, tree-lined paths climb the slope past palms, pines and lawns, and the play areas fill with neighborhood families. From the upper paths, you can pick out the Sagrada Família and the sea. The park is publicly owned and accessible for visitors with physical disabilities (Barcelona Guide).
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Weekday mornings are calmest. Late afternoons and weekends bring school-age crowds to the playgrounds, and the golden hour is best for views. Entry is free. The nearest metro stop is Alfons X on Line 4, followed by a short uphill walk; the official address is Plaça d’Alfons el Savi, 3. The park hosts occasional community events, including the “Converses de safareig” talk on 8 October 2026 (Guía Barcelona). For a fuller day, pair your visit with the Bunkers del Carmel on Turó de la Rovira, about a 20-minute climb away, or with Park Güell nearby.
