Cismigiu Gardens is Bucharest’s oldest public park, a tree-filled, English-style garden built around a central lake in the heart of the city.
The site began as a fishing pond in the 17th century before being developed with fountains in the 1770s and finally transformed into a public garden during 1830s-40s urban reforms, officially opening on September 23, 1847. Its winding paths, rose garden, and pavilion have made it a favorite escape for residents ever since.
Most visitors spend 1 to 2 hours here, whether strolling the lakeside paths as a dedicated outing or pausing for a rest stop during a day of sightseeing in central Bucharest.
