Puente de la Mujer, or the Woman’s Bridge, is a striking white pedestrian swing bridge in Puerto Madero designed by Valencian architect Santiago Calatrava — his first work in Latin America. The design evokes a couple dancing tango, and its central span rotates 90 degrees on a concrete pylon in under two minutes, typically opening on Thursdays around 10 a.m. to let boats pass through the dock.
The bridge and its surrounding walkways are free to cross and accessible around the clock, connecting the two sides of Puerto Madero’s revitalized dockside district. Nearby, restaurants with outdoor seating line the water, and a short walk east leads to Parque Mujeres Argentinas, a green space good for picnics.
The bridge is most photogenic at sunset and after dark, when its white structure is lit up against the water. A convenient way to reach it is by bus or metro to Plaza de Mayo, followed by a roughly 15-minute walk east into Puerto Madero.
