The Antlers Inn is a lakefront hotel in Old Town Kingsland, on the shore of Lake LBJ in the Texas Hill Country. The Austin and Northwestern Railroad built it in 1901 as a resort for rail passengers. Restored in the 1990s, it draws history buffs, couples looking for a romantic weekend and small corporate groups.
The original hotel has wraparound porches and suites furnished with period antiques. Many guests skip the main building and book one of the converted train cars instead, choosing among three cabooses and a vintage coach car. Historic cabins and a former railroad depot turned guest house add more options. In its early years, the resort spread cabins across the grounds and lit the evenings with gas lamps, and guests phoned room service orders to the hotel kitchen. Today, shaded lawns slope down to the water. Guests can use the lake access for swimming, paddling and watching the sunset.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
The cabooses are the most requested rooms, so reserve them several weeks ahead. Book even earlier for summer lake season, spring wildflower weekends and holidays. Weekdays outside summer are quieter and often easier to book. For conferences, retreats and weddings, contact the inn directly through its contact page to coordinate event space. Inks Lake State Park and Longhorn Cavern State Park are both a short drive away. Kingsland sits about 65 miles northwest of Austin, and you will need a car to get there.
