InterContinental Cairo Semiramis stands on the Corniche El Nil in downtown Cairo, facing the river a short walk from the Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili, and Tahrir Square. The original Semiramis Hotel opened in 1907 as Cairo’s first true luxury hotel, built more as a grand casino and entertainment venue than a conventional hotel, with ballrooms, riverfront terraces, and a dance hall.
The current 32-story tower dates to a 1987 rebuild that replaced the historic structure with a modernist landmark now visible across Cairo’s skyline. Its 726 rooms and nine restaurants include the Lebanese Sabaya, Thai Birdcafe, and Italian Pane Vino.
