Times Square is a 16-storey shopping mall at 1 Matheson Street in the heart of Causeway Bay, one of Hong Kong’s busiest retail districts. Opened in 1994 on the site of a former tram depot, it combines international fashion labels, upper-floor restaurants and a cinema under one roof, and is linked directly to Causeway Bay MTR station.
Most visitors first notice the open-air plaza out front, with its giant video screen above the entrance. The plaza is a popular meeting point and hosts Hong Kong’s long-running New Year’s Eve countdown. Inside, the retail levels mix global fashion, beauty, electronics and lifestyle brands, connected by long escalator runs through the central atrium. The basement holds a supermarket stocked with Japanese and imported groceries. The Food Forum on the upper floors offers sit-down restaurants serving Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Western cuisine. Cinema operators here have changed over the years, so check current listings before you plan a movie night.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Weekday mornings shortly after opening are the calmest time to visit. Weekends, public holidays and evenings bring heavy crowds, especially during Golden Week and the December holiday season. Upper-floor restaurants fill quickly at lunch and dinner, so book ahead or join the queue early. To get there, take the MTR Island Line to Causeway Bay and use Exit A, or ride the Hennessy Road trams. Hysan Place, Sogo and Victoria Park are all a short walk away.
