Kunstraum Innsbruck is a non-profit contemporary art association with a roughly 300 m² exhibition hall in the Arkadenhof at Maria-Theresien-Straße 34, on Innsbruck’s main pedestrian boulevard. Founded in June 1996, it presents international contemporary artists in a pared-back setting, and admission is free (Innsbruck Tourism; Kunstraum Innsbruck).
Visitors step from the arcaded courtyard into a single open hall with white walls and minimal fittings, where each exhibition fills the room. The current show features British artist Monster Chetwynd, opening September 25, 2026, whose theatrical, performance-driven work suits the open floor (Kunstraum Innsbruck). Alongside exhibitions, the program includes lectures, discussions, artist talks, readings and concerts. These events draw a loyal local membership, which keeps the association running.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Listed hours are Tuesday to Friday from 1 pm to 6 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm. The gallery is closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays (Artguide). It also closes between exhibitions for installation, so check the website or call +43 512 584000 before you go. Weekday afternoons are the quietest time to visit. The gallery is a short walk from the Annasäule, the Triumphpforte and the Golden Roof in the Old Town, and several tram and bus lines stop along Maria-Theresien-Straße.
