The Mayborn Museum Complex sits on Baylor University’s campus at 1300 S University Parks Dr in Waco, close to the Brazos River. It combines natural history, hands-on science, and Texas history, and families and students come for galleries they can touch, climb, and explore.
The museum grew out of Baylor’s Strecker Museum collection, which dates to the 1890s. Natural history galleries trace Central Texas from ancient seas to Ice Age mammals, with fossils and dioramas drawn from the region. Younger visitors spend hours in the themed Discovery Rooms, where they can dig for bones, build structures, and test science concepts. Outdoors, the Gov. Bill and Vara Daniel Historic Village recreates a 19th-century Texas river community with relocated wooden buildings, including a schoolhouse, church, and general store. Changing exhibitions and family programs, such as talent shows and cultural celebrations, keep the calendar active (source: Mayborn Facebook).
