Perast Museum occupies the Bujović Palace, a Baroque mansion on the town’s waterfront promenade built in 1694 for the noble Bujović family. It tells the story of a small Bay of Kotor town that produced generations of sea captains, shipbuilders and naval officers under Venetian rule.
The municipal council founded the museum in 1937, and the collection moved into the restored palace in 1957 (TripLinkHub). Its more than 2,000 items include ship models, navigational charts and instruments, weapons, portraits of captains, period furniture, traditional costumes and documents from the 17th to 19th centuries. The exhibitions trace Perast from its founding through Venetian, French and Austro-Hungarian rule (Tripadvisor). Climb to the upper floor for the balcony, which frames the islets of Our Lady of the Rocks and St. George across the water.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Listed hours are 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily. Hours can shift in the off-season, so confirm on arrival. Admission is around €8, and some visitors find that steep for the museum’s compact size (Airial). From June to September, come at opening or after 4:00 PM to avoid the tour-bus crowds that arrive from Kotor, roughly 15 km away. You can pair your visit with the St. Nicholas Church bell tower nearby and a short boat ride from the promenade to Our Lady of the Rocks.
