Stadtkeller is a historic cellar restaurant on Sternenplatz in Lucerne’s Old Town. It is known for its long-running Swiss folklore show, where tourists and locals share fondue while alphorns, yodelers and flag throwers perform a few steps from the stage.
The “Swiss Night out” programme pairs a set menu of cheese fondue and hearty regional dishes with live yodeling, alphorn blowing, cowbell ringing and flag swinging. Guests are often invited to join in. The kitchen serves hot food all day from 11:30 a.m. until 9:30 p.m., and the bar opens at 8 a.m., Tuesday through Saturday (Stadtkeller). In winter, the stage shifts to local acts. The Konzertwinter runs from January to March 2027, the venue’s 44th season, with 48 evenings of blues, rock, funk, jazz, Volksmusik and comedy (Stadtkeller Luzern). It is also one of Lucerne’s main venues during Fasnacht, the city’s carnival.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Book the folklore show in advance from May through October, when tour groups fill the room. Request a table near the stage if you want to take part. Lunch and early afternoon are quieter if you only want fondue. Check the Konzertwinter schedule for winter tickets, and expect heavy crowds during Fasnacht. From Lucerne station, it’s roughly a 10-minute walk across the Chapel Bridge. Combine your visit with the Weinmarkt, the Kornmarkt and a stroll along the Reuss.
