Parques del Río is a linear public park along the Medellín River in the center of Medellín, Colombia, created to reconnect the city with a waterway that had long been cut off by highways running along both banks. The first completed stretch covers roughly 72,000 square meters of green space built over sections of the sunken roadway.
The park features pedestrian and bike paths, outdoor fitness equipment, playgrounds, water features, and picnic areas, along with thousands of trees and ornamental plants installed by the city’s Botanical Garden as part of the project. It is intended as the first phase of a much larger corridor that, when complete, will eventually stretch roughly 20 kilometers along the river through the Aburrá Valley.
It’s a popular spot for locals to walk, cycle, and exercise, and offers an easy, low-cost way to see a green, car-free side of Medellín.
