Plaza Botero is an open public square in downtown Medellin displaying 23 monumental bronze sculptures donated by the city’s most famous artist, Fernando Botero, making it home to the largest collection of his signature oversized figures anywhere in the world.
The plaza sits in the historic La Candelaria district between the Museum of Antioquia and the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, easily reached on foot from the Parque Berrio metro station. Sculptures include Botero’s famous voluptuous cat, a horseback rider, and figures like Adam and Eve, all cast in his instantly recognizable rounded style.
The square is free and open at all times, though a daytime visit is recommended for comfort and safety. Pairing it with the adjacent Museum of Antioquia, which holds Botero’s paintings and drawings, rounds out a half-day cultural stop.
