Parco Sempione is Milan’s largest central green space, a landscaped park stretching behind the medieval Sforza Castle that offers a quiet escape from the city’s bustling streets.
Laid out between 1888 and 1894 by architect Emilio Alemagna on the site of a former military parade ground, the park’s winding carriage paths, artificial lake, and belvedere have hosted major exhibitions since its creation, including the Milan International Exhibitions of 1894 and 1906 and the Triennale design shows that continue today.
Entry is free, though closing times shift with the seasons, running later into the evening in summer; it’s a popular spot for picnics, jogging, and views of the Arco della Pace.
