The Art and Culture Center/Hollywood is a nonprofit contemporary arts venue at 1650 Harrison Street in downtown Hollywood. Founded in 1975 as south Broward County’s only visual and performing arts organization, it draws art lovers, students, and working artists for exhibitions that change throughout the year (Grokipedia).
The galleries occupy the renovated Kagey Home, a 1924 Mediterranean Revival house the Center moved into in 1992. Visitors walk through intimate, residential-scale rooms instead of cavernous halls. The Center mounts more than 15 contemporary exhibitions a year (Artguide), many featuring South Florida artists. Work by students from the adjacent art school appears alongside professional shows. The Center also runs the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center at 1770 Monroe Street, so a gallery visit can pair with a theater or music program (Apple Maps).
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Weekday afternoons are the quietest time to visit. Opening receptions and weekends bring larger crowds, especially during the winter high season from December through April. Hours and admission vary by exhibition and season, so check the Center’s official website before you go. ArtsPark at Young Circle and the restaurants on Hollywood Boulevard are a short walk away. Hollywood Beach and its Broadwalk are about two miles east, which makes the beach an easy add-on for the same trip.
