Vieux-Port de Montréal traces its roots to 1611, when French fur traders first used the site along the St. Lawrence River. Today the historic waterfront has been reimagined into a public space that pairs cobblestone streets and 17th-century buildings with modern attractions along the river.
The Old Port is home to the Montreal Science Centre and its IMAX theatre, the Pointe-à-Callières Museum tracing the city’s history from its Indigenous origins forward, the Montreal Clock Tower, and the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, known as the Sailors’ Church for its ties to Montreal’s maritime past.
Visitors can stroll the boardwalk, rent bikes, take a boat cruise along the river, or relax at the Plage de l’Horloge urban beach near the clock tower, with restaurants and cafes scattered throughout the district.
