Jardin du Luxembourg is one of Paris’s most beloved public gardens, spread across 23 hectares in the 6th arrondissement near the Latin Quarter. Built in the 1610s for Marie de’Medici alongside the Luxembourg Palace, the garden blends a formal French layout with English-style groves, a large octagonal pond where children still sail toy boats, and dozens of statues tucked among manicured lawns and chestnut-lined paths.
Highlights include the Medici Fountain, an orchard of rare apple and pear varieties, tennis courts, a puppet theater, and beehives that have produced honey since the 19th century. The garden is free to enter and open daily, with hours shifting seasonally from roughly 7:30 AM to as late as 9:30 PM in summer.
Most visitors spend an hour or two strolling the paths, renting a chair by the pond, or picnicking on the lawns. It’s a short walk from the Panthéon and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, making it easy to combine with a day of Left Bank sightseeing.
