The Tuileries Garden is Paris’s first public garden, laid out in its formal French style by royal gardener André Le Nôtre starting in 1664 and opened to the public in 1667. Stretching between the Louvre and Place de la Concorde along the Seine, it takes its name from the tile factories that once stood on the site.
The garden displays statues by Rodin, Maillol, and Giacometti among its geometric lawns, ponds, and tree-lined paths, and connects directly to the Musée de l’Orangerie, home to Monet’s large-scale Water Lilies canvases. In summer, a funfair with more than 60 attractions sets up on the grounds.
Entry is free year-round, with hours starting at 7 AM and closing anywhere from 7:30 PM in winter to 10:30 PM at the height of summer. Most visitors spend 30 minutes to an hour strolling through on their way between the Louvre and Concorde.
