Milford Galleries Queenstown is a commercial gallery dedicated to contemporary New Zealand art, with two exhibition spaces on Gorge Road, a short walk north of the town centre. Some older listings place it at 9A Earl Street, but the gallery’s current contact details give 58 Gorge Road. With more than 30 years in the trade, Milford offers a serious counterpoint to Queenstown’s reputation for adrenaline sports.
The programme rotates through painting, sculpture and mixed media by established and mid-career New Zealand artists, and the works are for sale. Recent shows indicate the gallery’s range. From 22 August to 21 September 2026 it hosted Grahame Sydney’s survey Close to Home, which featured 32 works, including Central Otago landscapes, figure studies and pieces from his time in Europe and Antarctica. Earlier in the year, a show of watercolours and drawings of Whakatipu and The Remarkables focused on the local landscape. Staff will discuss the artists and their practice with visitors, even if you are only browsing.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Check the exhibitions page before you go, because shows change every few weeks and the space is quieter between hangs. Weekday mornings are the calmest time to visit, particularly during the busy ski season (June to September) and the summer months (December to February). If you are a collector, phone ahead on +64 3 442 6896 to arrange a viewing. Gorge Road is an easy walk from Queenstown Mall, so you can combine a gallery visit with lunch in town or a stroll along the Lake Whakatipu waterfront.
