Confeitaria Colombo is a historic Belle Epoque cafe in downtown Rio de Janeiro, opened in 1894 by Portuguese immigrants and celebrated for its ornate Art Nouveau interior of Belgian mirrors and a stained-glass ceiling.
The cafe quickly became a gathering place for Rio’s writers, politicians, and high society during the city’s golden age, and its jointed marble counters and jacaranda-wood furnishings remain largely unchanged more than a century later. A second Copacabana location operated from 1944 until 2003, when it relocated to Fort Copacabana, but the original Centro address remains the main draw for visitors.
The cafe is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; it is closed Sundays. Its pastries and afternoon tea service are the main attraction.
