Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taipei is open daily from 9am to 6pm (closed on Lunar New Year, 228 Peace Memorial Day, and occasional maintenance days), and admission is free. The surrounding Liberty Square grounds, by contrast, are open 24 hours, so the plaza and lit-up hall are visitable well into the evening.
The memorial honors Taiwan’s former president and houses a museum on his life alongside a giant bronze statue. Out front, an hourly Changing of the Guard ceremony runs every hour on the hour from 9am to 5pm at Liberty Square.
Plan for 2-3 hours to see the museum exhibits, catch a guard-change ceremony, and walk the plaza and gardens, which are flanked by the National Theater and Concert Hall.
