Daan Forest Park is Taipei’s largest urban park, spanning roughly 200 acres (82 hectares) between Xinsheng South Road and Jianguo South Road. The land was first set aside as public parkland in 1932 under Japanese colonial administration, then used for decades as military housing and informal settlements before being cleared and officially opened as a public park in 1994.
Today the park functions as Taipei’s “green lung,” with forested trails of camphor, fig, and maple trees, ponds, a greenhouse, sports courts, a children’s playground, and an outdoor amphitheater. It’s a popular spot for morning tai chi, jogging, and cycling, and hosts cultural events throughout the year, including the annual Taipei Lantern Festival.
Admission to the park is free and it is open to the public at all times as an outdoor green space, making it an easy stop for visitors staying near the Daan Park or Technology Building MRT stations.
