Sunshine City is a sprawling entertainment and shopping complex in Ikebukuro, Toshima, Tokyo, opened in 1978 on the site of the former Sugamo Prison after five years of construction. At completion, its 240-meter Sunshine 60 tower was the tallest building in Asia.
The complex brings together a shopping mall, an aquarium, a planetarium, a hotel, and an observation deck under one roof, making it a full day out rather than a single attraction.
Shops generally open from 10 AM to 8 PM and restaurants from 11 AM to 10 PM, though the aquarium, planetarium, and observatory each keep their own separate hours worth checking before a visit.
