Blue Water Cafe is Yaletown’s flagship seafood restaurant, set in a restored brick heritage warehouse at the corner of Hamilton and Helmcken. Executive Chef Frank Pabst has built its reputation on sustainable West Coast fish and shellfish, and diners book here for precise cooking, a serious Japanese raw bar, and polished service.
Inside, exposed timber beams and brick walls frame an open kitchen and a dedicated sushi and raw bar where chefs slice local and imported fish to order. Signature plays include tiered seafood towers piled with oysters, crab and prawns, and BC sablefish. Inventive rolls and sashimi showcase the day’s catch. The restaurant is a longtime partner of Ocean Wise, and each February its “Unsung Heroes” menu puts overlooked species such as sea urchin, mackerel and geoduck at the centre of the plate. A deep wine list, a cocktail bar, and a covered patio on the old loading dock round out the experience. The patio is well suited to warm-evening dates.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Blue Water Cafe opens for dinner nightly. Reserve through OpenTable or the official site, especially for weekends, summer patio season and February’s Unsung Heroes run. Early seatings around opening time are calmer. Solo diners can usually find space at the raw bar. Take the Canada Line to Yaletown–Roundhouse Station, a short walk away. Afterward, walk to David Lam Park and the False Creek seawall.
