Belvedere Palace is a baroque palace complex in Vienna’s Landstraße district, built in the early 18th century as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy. Today the Upper Belvedere houses the Belvedere Museum’s permanent collection, which includes the world’s largest single collection of Gustav Klimt paintings, headlined by his 1908 masterpiece The Kiss.
The Kiss hangs in the Vienna 1900 section on the upper floor, reached via the palace’s grand marble staircase, and is displayed alongside other major Klimt works as well as pieces by Schiele, Kokoschka, and Rodin. The museum’s collection spans over nine centuries of Austrian art, set within the palace’s ornate baroque interiors and formal gardens.
Because The Kiss draws large crowds, buying timed-entry tickets online in advance is strongly recommended. Visiting before 10 AM or after 4 PM avoids the midday rush between 11 AM and 2 PM, when the galleries are busiest.
