Stadtpark, or City Park, opened in 1862 as Vienna’s first public park, with its earliest section laid out along the left bank of the Wien River before expanding across the water the following year.
The park is best known for its gilded statue of composer Johann Strauss II, alongside monuments to Franz Schubert and other composers scattered along its winding paths, making it a favorite stop for visitors tracing Vienna’s musical heritage.
Stadtpark is open to the public around the clock and free to enter, though the Kursalon concert hall and the park’s restaurants keep their own separate operating hours.
