Old Faithful Inn is a log-and-stone hotel in Yellowstone’s Upper Geyser Basin in Wyoming, within sight of Old Faithful Geyser. Architect Robert Reamer designed it, and crews built it in 1903–1904 from local lodgepole pine and rhyolite. It is a National Historic Landmark, often called the largest log structure in the world, and the park’s most requested lodging (Yellowstone National Park Lodges).
Inside, the lobby rises about 76 feet through layers of twisted log railings and balconies to the roof. A massive stone fireplace anchors the room, beside a hand-crafted clock made of copper, wood and wrought iron (NPS). The Old House rooms keep their rustic character, and some share hall bathrooms. The newer wings offer more conventional rooms and suites. Guests can eat in the Dining Room or have a drink in the Bear Pit Lounge, and the upper-level outdoor deck gives a direct view of eruptions.
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
The 2026 season runs through October 12. The inn reopens April 30, 2027, though dates can change (official site). Summer rooms sell out many months ahead, so book as early as possible. Room rates vary by date and room category, and taxes and fees are added at checkout. Day visitors are welcome in the lobby, which is quietest early in the morning or after the tour buses leave in the evening. Free staff-led tours of the inn’s history run during the season. Check the posted eruption predictions, then walk the boardwalks to Geyser Hill and Morning Glory Pool.
