The Topography of Terror is a free outdoor and indoor museum built on the former site of the Gestapo headquarters, the SS leadership, and the Reich Security Main Office in Berlin, where the persecution of Nazi political opponents and the genocide of European Jews, Sinti, and Roma were coordinated between 1933 and 1945.
A temporary exhibition first opened on the site in 1987 for Berlin’s 750th anniversary; the permanent documentation center opened in 2010, examining both the history of the location and the institutions of terror based nearby.
The museum draws over a million visitors a year and combines an indoor exhibition hall with an open-air display along a surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, offering one of the city’s most direct confrontations with its Nazi-era history.
