Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town is open every day of the year, from 8am to 7pm September through March and 8am to 6pm April through August.
Founded in 1913 on land at the foot of Table Mountain bequeathed by Cecil Rhodes, Kirstenbosch was the first garden in the world dedicated to showcasing a single country’s indigenous flora. It protects part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the smallest yet richest of the planet’s six floral kingdoms.
Highlights include the elevated Boomslang canopy walkway, fragrance and medicinal plant gardens, and open lawns that host a popular summer sunset concert series. The garden borders several signature hiking trails up Table Mountain.
