The Getty Center is a hilltop museum and garden complex in Los Angeles, showing the J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection of European paintings, drawings, sculpture, illuminated manuscripts, and decorative arts alongside photography spanning three centuries.
The permanent collection ranges from medieval manuscripts through 20th-century photography, and the complex itself is reached only by a tram running from the parking structure up to the hilltop galleries and gardens.
Admission is always free, though a timed-entry reservation is required, and the site includes a research library, restaurant, and two cafes overlooking the city.
