The Hollywood Walk of Fame stretches for roughly 1.3 miles along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street, embedding more than 2,700 coral-pink terrazzo stars into the sidewalk to honor figures from film, television, music, radio, and live theatre. The tradition began in 1960 with director Stanley Kramer’s star, and roughly 10 to 12 new names are added each year in public ceremonies.
Near the heart of the strip sits the TCL Chinese Theatre, the most photographed spot on the boulevard, where more than 200 celebrities have pressed their hand and footprints into the forecourt cement. Nearby attractions include the Dolby Theatre, home of the Academy Awards, and the Hollywood Museum.
Most visitors spend 1 to 3 hours walking the boulevard and hunting for favorite stars. Early morning, between roughly 7 and 11am, or the evening hours draw far smaller crowds than the busy midday stretch.
