Angelita Madrid is a wine bar, restaurant and gastro-cocktail den on Calle de la Reina, a short side street off Gran Vía at the edge of Chueca. Brothers David and Mario Villalón run it with chef Alfonso Sancho, building the menu around produce from their family’s farm in Zamora. That farm-to-glass approach recently earned the bar the #51 spot in the extended World’s 50 Best Bars ranking.
The ground floor holds two areas, a restaurant and a bar. Both share the same menu and a deep wine list, with many bottles poured by the glass. Plates lean on traditional Spanish cooking with a modern edge, such as organic pisto with egg yolk and rosemary mayonnaise, and cheeses and desserts round out the menu. Downstairs, the basement cocktail bar serves ice-free drinks built from garden ingredients, like vegetables, herbs and fruit grown in Zamora. For a group of 6 to 8 people, the private room called Hibiki can be booked (esMadrid).
Visitor Highlights & Practical Info
Reserve for dinner, especially Thursday through Saturday, when tables fill late in true Madrid fashion. An early evening visit gives you a better chance at bar seats and more time with staff to talk through wine pairings. Ask the sommeliers for something unusual by the glass, then head downstairs for a nightcap. The nearest Metro stops are Gran Vía and Chueca. Check current hours on the official website before you go.
