Queen Victoria Market is Melbourne’s historic open-air marketplace, opened in 1878 on the site of the city’s original 19th-century cemetery and now the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere.
More than 600 traders sell fresh produce, meat, seafood, deli goods, clothing, and locally made art and homewares across the market’s heritage sheds. In summer and winter, the market also runs a Wednesday-evening Night Market with pop-up bars, street food, and live music.
The market operates Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday — it is closed Monday and Wednesday during the day — with produce sheds opening as early as 6 a.m.
