The Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City’s Chapultepec Park holds around 600,000 pre-Columbian artifacts across nearly 8 hectares, making it one of the largest anthropology museums in the world. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 AM to 8 PM (closed Mondays), with free guided tours offered Tuesday-Saturday at set times through the day.

The museum’s most famous piece is the Aztec Sun Stone, a 25-ton carved basalt slab depicting Aztec cosmology, displayed alongside a partial reconstruction of the Temple of Quetzalcoatl from Teotihuacán, colossal Olmec stone heads, and the jade funeral mask of the Maya ruler Pakal from Palenque.

Visitors can comfortably see the highlights in 3-4 hours, though the full collection easily fills a day. Weekdays are notably quieter than Sundays, when free admission for Mexican nationals draws larger crowds to the galleries.
