The Arco della Pace is a neoclassical triumphal arch standing at the northwestern edge of Parco Sempione, marking the historic road toward Paris and Lake Maggiore.
Designed by Luigi Cagnola and built between 1807 and 1838, it was originally commissioned to honor Napoleon’s military victories; after his defeat, the sculptural program was reworked to celebrate peace instead, and a bronze six-horse chariot now crowns the structure alongside statues of mounted warriors.
The arch is an open-air public monument, freely accessible at any hour, and makes a natural stop when combining a walk through Sempione Park with a visit to the nearby Sforza Castle.
