The Centre Pompidou is Paris’s landmark of modern and contemporary art, instantly recognizable for its inside-out architecture of exposed pipes, escalators, and steel trusses in the Beaubourg district. It holds the largest collection of modern art in Europe, with works by Matisse, Kandinsky, Picasso, and Frida Kahlo.
Beyond the galleries, the building itself is the draw: a public library, a design and industrial-creation center, a cinema, and a rooftop level with panoramic views over the Eiffel Tower, Sacre-Coeur, and Notre-Dame.
Note for planning: the Centre Pompidou closed its doors in September 2025 for a major renovation and is not expected to reopen until 2030. During the closure, its collection tours partner venues across France under the “Constellation” program, so check current listings before visiting the Beaubourg site directly.
