Jardim do Morro is a hilltop garden and viewpoint in Vila Nova de Gaia, sitting directly across the Douro River from Porto’s historic Ribeira district. Built in 1927 on land that once belonged to the Serra do Pilar Monastery, the park takes its name, meaning “garden on the hill,” from its elevated perch beside the upper deck of the Dom Luis I Bridge.
The garden’s open lawns, children’s playground, and small esplanade kiosk make it a popular spot for both a quiet stroll and a sunset gathering, with unobstructed views across the river to Porto’s rooftops and the Ribeira waterfront below.
The park itself is free and never closes, though the funicular linking it to the riverside runs roughly 10 AM to 8 PM from April to October and 10 AM to 6 PM from November to March.
