Torre del Oro is a 13th-century, twelve-sided watchtower rising beside the Guadalquivir River in Seville, Spain, built by the Almohad dynasty around 1220 to help guard the city’s port. Its name comes from the golden hue its tiles once reflected on the water, and today the tower houses a small naval museum tracing Seville’s role as the gateway for Spanish trade with the Americas.

Inside, two exhibition floors display ship models, historic navigation instruments, maps, and documents that illustrate the city’s maritime golden age, when Seville held a royal monopoly on trade with the New World. A narrow spiral staircase leads to the rooftop terrace, which offers sweeping views over the river, the Triana neighborhood, and Seville’s historic core.

The tower is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM (last entry 6:30 PM) and weekends and holidays from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, with standard admission of 3 EUR (reduced to 1.50 EUR for children, students, and seniors) and free entry for everyone on Mondays. It sits a short walk from Seville Cathedral and Plaza de España, making it an easy add-on to a riverside stroll.
