The Museo Reina Sofía is Spain’s national museum of 20th- and 21st-century art, located near Madrid’s Atocha station as part of the city’s “Golden Triangle of Art.”

Opened in 1992, the museum is best known for housing Picasso’s 1937 painting “Guernica,” created in response to the bombing of the Basque town during the Spanish Civil War and displayed in the Sabatini Building; the collection holds roughly 25,000 works overall, spanning Surrealism and Spanish art of the 20th century.

The museum is open 10 AM-9 PM Wednesday through Monday (closed Tuesdays), with reduced Sunday afternoon access after 2:15 PM.
