Ciudad Mitad del Mundo is a monument complex north of Quito marking the equatorial line, built around a 30-metre stone obelisk topped with a globe and surrounded by museums, gardens, and a small model village.
The site was constructed near the location determined by an 18th-century French geodesic expedition, though modern GPS shows the true equator lies a short distance away — a discrepancy explored at the neighboring Intiñan Solar Museum, a separate paid attraction with its own equator-line demonstrations.
The complex is open daily, generally 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and until 6:00 p.m. on weekends, with the monument itself the main paid attraction and the surrounding plazas free to explore.
