Casa Batlló is one of Antoni Gaudí’s most celebrated works, a private home originally built in 1877 that Gaudí completely reimagined between 1904 and 1906 for textile industrialist Josep Batlló. He transformed the façade, expanded the central light well, and reworked the interior into a flowing, organic masterpiece now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The building’s undulating, bone-like balconies and shimmering, scale-patterned roof have earned it the nickname the “House of Bones” and reference the legend of Saint George and the dragon, Catalonia’s patron saint story. Inside, curved walls, colored glass, and a light-filled atrium continue the nature-inspired design.
A self-guided visit with the augmented-reality guide generally takes one and a half to two hours, and the house welcomes roughly a million visitors a year to its Passeig de Gràcia location.
