The Monument to the Revolution rises over Mexico City’s Plaza de la República as the tallest memorial arch in the world at 67 meters. It began as the unfinished dome of a legislative palace commissioned under President Porfirio Díaz, whose plans were cut short by the 1910 Mexican Revolution; the structure was completed as a monument in the 1930s.

The monument doubles as a mausoleum, holding the remains of revolutionary figures Francisco “Pancho” Villa, Francisco I. Madero, Plutarco Elías Calles, Venustiano Carranza, and Lázaro Cárdenas. Beneath it, the Museo Nacional de la Revolución traces Mexican history from 1857 to 1920 through photographs, documents, and artifacts from the revolutionary era.

A glass elevator runs through the monument’s central column up to an observation deck inside the dome, offering wide views over the surrounding Alameda area. Buying tickets online in advance is recommended, especially for the elevator ride to the top.
